Sobriety Isn’t Boring: Poisoning Yourself for Fun Is
Jun 06, 2025
Let me be real with you. I don’t care if you drink.
I care if you don’t like it and keep doing it anyway.
I’ve been sober for over two years now. And what surprises me most isn’t what I gave up… it’s how weird it makes other people feel. 🙃
I’m not the one making it weird.
But say you’re sober and suddenly everyone gets defensive. 👀
It’s wild how uncomfortable people get when I say, “I don’t drink.”
Suddenly I’m the alien in the room. 👽
“Why not?”
“You can just have one.”
“Come on, live a little.”
So let’s get honest.
Do you actually like alcohol?
Like… the taste, the smell, the feeling of downing a bunch of liquid that messes with your sleep, bloats your gut, fogs your brain, and makes your skin break out?
Or do you like something around it?
Maybe it’s the social part.
Maybe it’s the excuse to sit still.
Maybe it’s the pause between work and responsibility.
Maybe it’s just what everyone else is doing. 🤷♀️
No judgment. I’ve been there.
I’ve used food. Weed. Alcohol. Gambling. All of it.
Not to feel more but to feel less.
But here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear:
Alcohol wrecks your nervous system.
It dehydrates your brain.
It messes with your hormones.
It tears up your gut.
It steals your deep sleep. 🧠💤
It depletes your body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients.
And it’s a known carcinogen linked to at least 7 kinds of cancer. Yes, even in small amounts.
So when people call sobriety “boring,” I can’t help but laugh.
Because what’s actually boring is dragging through life feeling numb, foggy, anxious, inflamed, and disconnected.
Sobriety didn’t shrink my life.
It expanded it. 💥
I feel more.
I think more clearly.
I move better.
I sleep deeper.
My joy is real, not rented.
Do I miss alcohol?
Not even a little.
Because what I used to chase in that glass…
I’ve built for myself in real life.
So if you genuinely enjoy a drink now and then, cool. No shame.
But if you don’t, even a little, maybe it’s time to ask why you’re still picking it up.
You deserve more than coping.
You deserve to feel good in your body, your mind, and your life.
You’re allowed to stop doing things that don’t serve you.
You’re allowed to thrive. 🧡
